The Chamber Alliance of New York State (CANYS) is dedicated to the collective influence and efforts of the chamber community and to the growth and professionalism of its members. CANYS provides leadership and assistance in the following key areas:
Professional Development and Programming:
The most valuable service CANYS can provide is to share the collective expertise of its members. Therefore, CANYS:
- Offers multiple conferences and meetings each year that focus on various aspects of chamber management
- Provides mentoring services for chamber professionals new to the business
- Coordinates and distributes a comprehensive directory of New York’s chambers, including information about services offered and self-designated areas of expertise
- Hosts a website – http://canys.org — which serves as a one-stop shop for information about and for chambers in New York and nationwide
Representation:
Serving as the voice of the state’s more than 200 chambers and regional employer associations, CANYS:
- Holds a seat on The Business Council’s prestigious Government Affairs Steering Committee
- Interacts with national organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives
- Reaches out to other regional and state chamber associations for purposes of joint programming, lobbying and the exploration of new income enhancement opportunities
Political Action and Education:
Through partnerships with state and national associations, CANYS aims to educate its members on issues of importance to the employer community throughout the state. CANYS:
- Sponsors Small Business Lobby Day in Albany with The Business Council and the National Federation of Independent Businesses
- Hosts and coordinates “New York Day in Washington” on Capitol Hill
- Continues to invite elected officials, bureaucrats and government affairs representatives to conferences to brief chambers on the most pressing issues of the day
- Lobbies pro-business issues and/or matters that directly affect chambers and their ability to operate
